Nokia cuts price by $50, Lumia not sellling enough?

Is the Lumia 900 really selling that badly?

After all the endless praise the Nokia Lumia 900 has received,  Nokia’s flagship device just got another price cut from $99.99 to $49.99 (included in a 2 year contract). This might be good news for all those potential Lumia fans waiting for that final nudge to invest in the device, but Nokia’s investors are not too fond of the move, reports Reuters. The cut precedes Nokia’s announcement of its second quarter figures, which many assume are below expectations. Depending on how much the average consumer actually knows about software updates, this presumed lack of interest in the device might be caused by the Lumia series not receiving the full Windows 8 OS upgrade later in October this year. The alternative Windows Phone 7.8 update will instead be made available.

Analysts have estimated Nokia to have sold around 10 million smartphone devices during this quarter, Apple getting around 30 million and Samsung bringing home the bacon with 50 million smartphones. Nokia’s shares have also gone down 3 percent yesterday.

We’re very curious if you consider the Lumia 900 to be worth the investment. Would you still go for it, regardless of the lack of a future Windows Phone 8 OS?

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak finds Lumia 900 attractive, “sets the mark for user interface”

Following a recent tweet about his adoration for the Lumia 900 Windows Phone, legendary geek and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak ended up having to clarify his statement after multiple tech websites had reported him stating the Lumia 900 to be his favorite. Alas, the iPhone won in that category, but Wozniak went on to clarify what he believes makes the Lumia 900 a standard setting phone:

“Wrong. iPhone is my favorite phone. I did give my opinion that the Windows 7 phone had superior visual appearance and operation cues that were also more attractive. In my opinion, it sets the mark for user interface. I would recommend it over my Android phones given that it doesn’t yet have the breadth of apps. I surmise that Microsoft hired someone from Apple and put money into having a role in the UI and appearance of some key apps. I also surmised that Steve Jobs might have been reincarnated at MS due to a lot of what I see and feel with this phone making me think of a lot of great Apple things.”

Lumia 900 data problems officially confirmed by Nokia, with customer friendly consequences

The Lumia 900 was off to a great start after its initial launch, but Nokia has recently acknowledged on their ‘Conversations by Nokia’-blog that some errors inside the device are present.

“In short, a memory management issue was discovered that could, in some cases, lead to loss of data connectivity. This issue is purely in the phone software, and is not related to either phone hardware or the network itself. As a proactive and prudent measure, we decided to take immediate action. We have identified the issue, and have developed a solution.”

The Nokia department was subsequently put into full-time spin mode to turn this event into a positive turn of events for Lumia 900 owners and potential buyers. The phone manufacturer now offers a new update that will resolve these issues on Monday April 16th or the option to swap your Lumia 900 for an updated device. But wait, there’s more.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. As a gesture of good will, every individual who has already purchased a Nokia Lumia 900 — or who will purchase one between now and April 21st – will receive a $100 credit to their AT&T bill from Nokia. “

Already considered a great budget option that balances Nokia’s expertise on mobile phones with smartphone tech running Windows Mobile, the Lumia 900 might have just become a better deal than it was before if purchased in the next 10 days for whoever actually still wants an AT&T contract nowadays. We’ll leave that decision up to you!
