Final Fantasy coming June 13th!

Some iconic job classes, like the Black Mage, are introduced here.

Rumors have been going around for a while, but now it’s confirmed: Final Fantasy, the first Xbox Live RPG on Windows Phone, is to be released as soon as next week! Get your straw hats and blue capes ready!

This version is a direct port of the iPhone game, which was in turn ported from the PSP remake of the very first Final Fantasy game on the Famicom. It’s pure jRPG goodness, with a surprisingly intricate plot for its time, although the storytelling is pretty subtle. Newer fans will need to adjust themselves to the different style of the series’ humble beginnings, but all the enhancements of this remake will surely help in the gameplay department.

The idea of the game is simple: you build a party of four Warriors of Light and set out to save the chaotic world. As any Final Fantasy, this game basically boils down to two different play modes: overworld and battle. A virtual pad allows you to move around in the world, traversing the massive world map, visiting towns and exploring dungeons. Every now and then, you will run into a random encounter, which initiate the battle mode. To fight, just, tap, tap, tap on the battle commands!

Yes, the game itself is nothing new, but it sure is fun being able to carry a Final Fantasy around on our own Windows Phones. Now, if Nintendo would just get smart and release those Pokémon games on smartphones, we’d be all set…

Final Fantasy will be available June 13th and will cost $6.99.
