Skulls of the Shogun to have cross-platform play, asynchronous XBLA play

Skulls of the Shogun just keeps getting better and better. The developers have now confirmed that the game will indeed have the ability to allow different platforms to play with each other, using wireless connection or 3G networks. Thanks to asynchronous play, it’s also possible to, for example, start the game on your Xbox 360 and move the same game to your Windows Phone and continue from there. Skulls of the Shogun is the first Xbox 360 game to support this feature.

The platforms supporting cross-play are: Windows Phone, Windows 8, Windows 8 Tablets and Xbox 360. Game sharing is not supported, so you’ll have to get a new copy for each of the platforms you want to use cross-play on.

Skulls of the Shogun will be available this Fall, as a launch title for Windows 8, also released simultaneously for Windows Phone and Xbox Live Arcade.

Microsoft makes commitment to include SmartGlass functionality on all future XBOX titles

The success of Microsoft’s SmartGlass will depend on developer support. Microsoft plans to lead the way by including SmartGlass support in future XBOX 360 games that they create.

Microsoft’s vision for SmartGlass in their games is to provide a rich supporting role as opposed to having the player need to pay attention to two screens at the same time. So don’t worry about trying to battle enemies in Halo while looking at your phone at the same time.

In an interview with Joystiq, Corporate VP of Microsoft Studios, Phil Spencer, had this to say. “It just makes so much sense for a developer who wants to supply, maybe not time-critical information, like ‘that enemy is getting ready to shoot you,’ but information that augments what’s happening on screen.”

May the 4th be with you!

A feisty little Xbox 360

Bo shuda, pateessa! It’s May 4th again, also known as Star Wars Day! To celebrate, check out this Star Wars related Windows Phone stuff:

First off, there’s a new promotion available for Behind the Tiles attendees to win an Xbox 360 Limited Edition Kinect Star Wars Bundle. Don’t miss your chance, the game seems amazing! You actually get to play as Han Solo… dancing to a pop song… in one of the most memorable and emotional scenes in the whole saga… sigh. The R2-D2 styled 360 does look pretty amazing, at least.

Koona t’chuta? Why not also check out these awesome minimalist wallpapers at 1800 PocketPC? A beautiful Phantom Menace wallpaper is sure to wash away the bad taste left by dancing Solo. Bantha poodoo…

Now, go out there and enjoy Star Wars in any way you like! Maybe eat some ancient C-3PO’s cereal, while dressed up as a jedi, watching the movies on Laserdisc or something. Do or do not, there is no try. Goopta mo bossa!
