Windows Phone 8 Reveals New Start Screen

Homescreen for Windows Phone 8

Among the many advancements made to the Windows Phone platform today, the one that stuck out to us was the brand new start screen. Windows Phone 8 will now allow users to customize the size of each and every tile. Hit the jump to get all the info on our new homescreens!

These sizes include:

  • Small – Which is one quarter of our current tiles
  • Medium – The exact same size we all know and love from our current Windows Phone devices
  • Large – This size will take over two tiles, and will give the most information.

“The intent in our changing the live tiles support in Windows Phone 8 was not to make them more personal but to give a more consistent experience between Windows 8 live tiles and Windows Phone 8,” Microsoft Windows Phone manager Joe Belfiore said.

The process of resizing tiles is quite simple as well, just hold your finger down on an app, then a arrow will appear on the tile’s lower left corner, grab that corner and drag to whichever size you want.

Microsoft also announced that there will be a slew of new colors available for the homescreen, even furthering the company’s idea to have a very personal phone for your own use.
